Honeyshirt prints designs on T-shirts, which means we take copyright seriously in both directions: we protect our own artwork, and we do not want to print or display anyone else’s work without permission. This page explains how to tell us if you believe something on honeyshirt.com infringes your copyright, what information we need, how quickly we act, and how someone whose content was removed can respond. Trademark, publicity-right and other intellectual property concerns are handled under our Intellectual Property Policy.
At a glance
- Send copyright notices to [email protected] with the subject line “Copyright notice”.
- Include the six elements listed in section 3 so we can act without delay.
- We acknowledge notices within 1 business day and review complete notices within 5 business days.
- Valid notices lead to removal of the design, image or text, and to the product being withdrawn from sale.
- Counter-notifications are possible for content a customer submitted, as explained in section 6.
1. What this page covers
This page applies to any material that appears on honeyshirt.com, including:
- designs and artwork printed on our tees and shown in product mock-ups;
- product photographs, lifestyle images and illustrations;
- product descriptions, page text, guides and blog articles;
- content submitted by customers, such as review text and photos.
It follows the notice-and-takedown process of the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and is designed to work for rights owners elsewhere too, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand, where we also sell. Honeyshirt is a single brand that sells its own range; there are no third-party sellers or marketplace shops on the site.
2. Before you send a notice
Many questions can be cleared up quickly. If you think one of our designs looks similar to your work, it helps to tell us the original title, where and when it was first published, and a link to it. Some resemblance is natural in T-shirt design: common phrases, simple shapes, public-domain imagery and general styles such as “vintage bootleg” layouts are not owned by anyone. Copyright protects specific creative expression, not ideas or short slogans. If you are unsure whether your rights are affected, consider getting legal advice before sending a formal notice; you can also simply email us with an informal question first.
3. What a copyright notice must include
To be complete, your written notice must contain:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or of a person authorised to act on their behalf. A typed full name at the end of an email is accepted as an electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed, such as a link to the original artwork, a registration number if one exists, or a description detailed enough for us to recognise it.
- Identification of the material on our site that you believe is infringing, with the exact URL of each product page or image. If a design appears on several products, list each URL.
- Your contact details: full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.
Send the notice to [email protected] with the subject “Copyright notice”, or post it to Honeyshirt, 231 Oxford Ave, Sugar Grove, IL 60554, United States. Email is much faster. Notices missing an element are not ignored: we reply and tell you exactly what is missing.
4. What we do when we receive a notice
| Step | Timing | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Acknowledgement | Within 1 business day | We confirm receipt and tell you if anything is missing. |
| Review | Within 5 business days of a complete notice | We compare the works and check our design records and licences. |
| Removal | Promptly after a valid notice | We remove or disable the material and withdraw affected products from sale. |
| Confirmation | Same day as removal | We email you which URLs were taken down. |
| Notice to the uploader | When the content came from a customer | We tell that person and share a copy of the notice, withholding your personal contact details where the law allows. |
Orders for a design that is subject to a valid notice are not printed. Customers who already ordered it are contacted and offered a different design or a full refund.
5. Personalized tees and customer uploads
Some Honeyshirt tees are printed with photos or text supplied by the customer. Our Terms of Service require customers to upload only content they own or have permission to use, and we refuse personalization requests that obviously use someone else’s artwork, logos or characters. Uploaded photos for private orders are not published on the site. If you believe a printed private order infringed your copyright, contact us with the details you have and we will investigate and stop any further printing of that material.
6. Counter-notification
If content you submitted, such as a review photo, was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you can send a counter-notification to the same email address. It must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- identification of the material that was removed and where it appeared before removal;
- a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
- your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district where your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, any judicial district in which Honeyshirt may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
We forward a valid counter-notification to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the material.
7. False or misleading notices
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation in a notice or counter-notification may be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees. Please consider fair use, licences and public-domain status before sending a notice. We may decline notices that are clearly abusive, for example an attempt to remove a competitor’s original design using a claim with no supporting work.
8. Repeat infringement
We remove content from, and may close the accounts of, customers who repeatedly submit infringing material. If a design in our own catalogue is found to infringe, we review how it entered the range and tighten our checks so it does not happen again.
9. Our own designs
Honeyshirt’s original designs, mock-ups and product photos are protected by copyright too. If you find them copied on another website or marketplace, we appreciate a link sent to [email protected]. Permission requests for legitimate uses, such as press coverage, are handled under our Intellectual Property Policy.
10. Fair use, parody and fan-inspired designs
Graphic tees often play with pop culture, sports and humour, so we are careful about where inspiration ends and copying begins. We do not print exact reproductions of film stills, album covers, comic panels, team artwork or other protected images, and we do not use characters we have no licence for. A design that comments on, parodies or transforms an idea can be lawful in some countries and not in others, and whether something is fair use or fair dealing depends on the specific facts. When a rights owner tells us a design crosses the line, we review it honestly and remove it if we cannot show it is original or permitted, rather than arguing over small differences.
11. How we handle your information in a notice
We use the contact details in a notice only to process it and to communicate about it. If the challenged content came from a customer, we may share a copy of the notice with that customer so they understand why their content was removed, but we withhold your phone number and postal address where the law allows. We keep notices and our responses on file for our records and may share them with legal advisers or authorities if a dispute escalates. Full details of how we handle personal information are in our Privacy Policy.
12. Notices from outside the United States
Rights owners in Canada, Australia, New Zealand or anywhere else can use the same process and the same email address. You do not need to cite US law; a clear description of your work, the URLs on our site and a statement that you own the rights are enough for us to start reviewing. Where your local law gives you specific additional rights or procedures, mention them and we will take them into account.
13. Examples
An illustrator finds her artwork on a tee
She sends a notice with a link to her original post from two years earlier, the Honeyshirt product URL, her contact details and the two required statements. We acknowledge it the next business day, confirm the match, take the product down, stop any unprinted orders and email her the list of URLs removed.
A photographer spots his photo in a customer review
He emails the review link and proof of authorship. We remove the photo, keep the text of the review if it does not include his work, and let the reviewer know. If the reviewer believes the photo is actually theirs, they can send a counter-notification under section 6.
A brand asks about a slogan tee
A company writes that one of our tees uses its slogan. Short phrases are generally not protected by copyright, so this is reviewed as a trademark question under our Intellectual Property Policy rather than under this page. We still answer within 1 business day, explain which process applies, and remove the design if it uses a registered mark in a way that could confuse buyers.
14. Contact
